Iftar (Arabic : إفطار), refers to the evening meal for breaking the daily fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan. Iftar during Ramadan is often done as a community, with Muslims gathering to break their fast together. Iftar is done right after Maghrib (sunset) time. Traditionally, a date is the first thing to be consumed during iftar. (Source: Wikipedia). Rasullulah SAW said' "Whoever fasts, experiences two joys. He is joyful when he breaks his fast, and is joyul because of his fasting when he meets ALLAH - Sahih Muslim.
The following doa may be recited at the time of breaking one's fast:
ALLAAHUMMA LAKA S'UMTU WA A'LAA RIZQIKA AFT'ARTU WA A'LAYKA TAWAWKKALTUO my Allah, for Thee, I fast, and with the food Thou gives me I break the fast, and I rely on Thee Iftar when the fast is broken. (Source : ezsoftech.com)
Ramadhan 1428H - We held our annual Iftar gathering with orphans from Darul Aitam Wal Masakin Orphanage in Alor Setar. Students, tutors & staff from PP Kedah, PP Jitra & PP Kangar joined 40 boys from the home to a feast donated by OUM and all the students & tutors. "Whoever invites others to break the fast, and whoever takes care of the hungry, needy, during the last ten days of Ramadhan will receive equal rewards to the fasting person(s).
